Week 12 – Purposeful Life

While reflecting on this upcoming Christmas holiday, I am full of wonder when I consider what this season means for so many people.  Many celebrate the birth of Jesus. Hannukah is also about celebrating miracles.  Presents, decorations, all bring attention to the magic of this holy season. I love all the decorations, the generosity, the feelings of love that fill everyone these days. Even Santa Claus has a life of purpose, as a symbol of love and giving.

“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Sometimes I wonder about the thought processes Jesus went through to find and live his life of such purpose. Santa is another example of a life of purpose – all about giving. So many people we admire who gave us that precious example of living a life of purpose. One we lost recently, John Glenn. I remember what a hero he always was to me – the face of courage, the example of what it means to meet challenges that are so far beyond common thought, it pulls the greatness right out of someone and makes them bigger than life.

“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.”
Eleanor Roosevelt

There are so many successful people who have encouraged us to go for that life of purpose. First, of course, we have to figure out what that is. What is your bliss? What are you doing when you are the most happy and fulfilled and lost in your work or in sharing which talent?

There are three things Haanel recommends you do in order to make that life of purpose manifest: “The only way to keep from going backward is to keep going forward. Eternal vigilance is the price of success. There are three steps, and each one is absolutely essential. You must first have the knowledge of your power; second, the courage to dare; third, the faith to do.” (12-4)

“The purpose of life is to contribute in some way to making things better.”
Robert F. Kennedy

Giving, service, making things better, spreading love – to me, these are the ideals of this magical season and the bases of a fabulous life.   So my gift to you would be to encourage you to follow the wisdom of the religious texts and the Master Key System – find your purpose, live your purpose, do it with the intention to give and serve and watch your life become the magical ideal you really want! Happy Holidays!
