Holidays are coming and I just can’t get everything done. It’s going to be a disaster. End of year bills are eating us alive. I’m worried about the holiday trips coming up. How are we going to make it? What’s going on at work? Rumors have started about layoffs. And on, and on, and on, and on!
Now, that’s how you ruin a great holiday – worry, fear, stress, anxiety. Whatever happened to those “good old days” when holidays were fun, carefree, lovely times of rest, joy, and re-connection? Well, I’m quite sure if we put our minds to it, we can make the new days just as good or better. But it does start with what we put our minds to …
Haanel tells us in Section 9-27 and 9-28 that “Man is the sum total of his own thoughts; so the question is, how are we going to entertain only the good thoughts and reject the evil ones? At first we can’t keep the evil thoughts from coming, but we can keep from entertaining them. The only way to do this is to forget them – which means, get something for them. This is where the ready-made affirmation comes into play.
“When a thought of anger, jealousy, fear or worry creeps in, just start your affirmation going. The way to fight darkness is with light – the way to fight cold is with heat – the way to overcome evil is with good. For myself, I never could find any help in denials. Affirm the good, and the bad will vanish. – Frederick Elias Andrews”
So, I guess that means when those ugly little thoughts crop up like the ones in the first paragraph, we need to be ready to replace it with an affirmation with positive context.
Louise Hay, who some believe to be the queen of affirmations would agree, I’m sure. “Love is the opposite of fear,” she writes, “The more we’re willing to love and trust who we are, the more we attract those qualities to ourselves. When we’re on a streak of really being frightened or upset or worried or not liking ourselves, isn’t it amazing how everything goes wrong in our lives? It’s the same when we really love ourselves. Everything starts to go on a winning streak, and we get the green lights and the parking spaces. We get up in the morning and the day flows beautifully.
“We need to love ourselves so that we can take care of ourselves. We have to do everything we can to strengthen our hearts, our bodies, and our minds. We must turn to the Power within, find a good spiritual connection, and really work on maintaining it.”
Here are some of Louise’s favorite affirmations for releasing fears. Give them a try:
- I accept myself and create peace in my mind and heart.
- I release the past with ease and trust the process of life.
- I am now willing to see only my magnificence.
- I have the power to make changes.
Here’s the one Haanel shares: “I am whole, perfect, strong, powerful, loving, harmonious and happy.”
Or try one of your own. Here’s one of mine: I exist because God loves me. I fill my heart with Divine Love so that there is only room for Light in my entire being, my actions and my thoughts.
Happy Holiday Preparations!!
